Monday Update 4

Open House will be Tuesday, September 21st, from 5 - 7 pm. You may stop by any time during this two hour time frame. Your child will serve as tour guide of our classroom, and will have several projects to share with you. Tuesday will also be a Chik-Fil-A fundraiser night. Be sure to mention that you are there for Stateside Elementary School.

Wednesday will be an early release day, with dismissal beginning at 12:45 p.m. Please let me know if your child will be using a different form of transportation than usual on this day.

If you would like to volunteer in our classroom, please complete the fingerprinting at the county office. Information regarding the process is available in the front office. I will be e-mailing a volunteer sign-up sheet next week for parent volunteers to begin the first week in October. All volunteers must be fingerprinted and cleared before they may begin helping in the classroom.

This week we will be learning how to write the letter T, discuss position of objects, identify left-to-right direction while reading, read the words "I", "like", and "me", and add details to drawing and writing.

You can help your child reinforce this skill at home by:
-Looking for the letter "t" around town (even in unusual fonts or on TV), and emphasizing its sound
-Discussing the position of household objects (above, below, inside, outside, under, etc.)

-Have your child practice discussing the position of animals while moving them using Animal Game. *Parent must either give child directions OR listen to child discuss how they move animals around, as there are no directions for students*
-Have your child read Zac the Rat on Starfall, which models sounding out words and uses simple sight words and short-a words in the text

-Practicing finding the front cover of books, and then using left-to-right direction when reading (or listening to) books
-Reading and writing sentences using "I", "like", or "me"

Thank you for your continued support!
