Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Can you believe it is already October? Time is flying by! If you have not scheduled a parent teacher conference with me yet, please do so asap.

Now that we have really gotten into the swing of things at school, you may see some little games, worksheets, or flashcards tucked into your child's binder or behavior chart. As I see a skill your child might need a little extra work on, I will send home a little bit of extra homework with just them. Don't feel pressured to complete it immediately, but simply to practice it a little extra, especially on Thursday or the weekend when homework is not as structured.

Tomorrow night will be CiCi's night. If you feel like a night of pizza, head over there for dinner and make sure to tell them you are from Mrs. Colwell's class at Stateside. Sometimes the winning class has been known to get a pizza party! I will be heading out there with Mr. Colwell at around 6:00 so I may see you there.

I have found some wonderful rhyming games online. If you feel your child is struggling with rhyming words, have them try their hand at some of these games.

Also, if you have an iPhone or iPad, there are some great free educational apps out there! ABC Touch by Grasshopper Apps is a great game for identifying letters by their name. ABC Tracing helps students lets children trace letters on the screen. Shape Builder Lite helps students develop spacial skills as they move shapes to fit on a larger puzzle.

We have begun receiving some of our letters from the letter exchange. Today we received the letter E from North Carolina and the letter W from Vermont. We can't wait to receive the remaining 23 letters.

The cookie fundraiser will end on October 13th. Please make sure all money, order forms, etc. are turned in on or before that date. It works out perfectly to send it in your child's binder that Thursday! Also, Scholastic book orders for October will be due on October 14th. Every online order placed earns our classroom library a free book!

If you have any questions, please send them my way. Have a fabulous week! Updates to the class blog will come soon. My home computer was acting a little bonkers on me this weekend and wouldn't let the pictures post.
